Abstract

Mediastinal teratomas develop silently and can grow large without symptoms. When sufficiently enlarged, they may compress the heart, blood vessels, esophagus, trachea, and lungs, causing chest pain, shortness of breath, and coughing. Computed tomography (CT) is essential for diagnosis and treatment planning. We report a case of giant mediastinal teratoma resection at Military Hospital 175. A 34-year-old female patient was admitted due to persistent right chest pain and dyspnea. CT imaging revealed a large tumor compressing the right lung, heart, and major blood vessels. Bronchoscopy and transthoracic biopsy confirmed the mediastinal teratoma diagnosis. The patient underwent surgical resection, successfully removing the tumor without invasion of adjacent structures. Postoperatively, she recovered well. Histopathological analysis confirmed a mature teratoma. Surgery remains the optimal treatment for mediastinal teratomas, ensuring complete tumor removal and improved patient outcomes.
