CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND TREATMENT OUTCOMES OF ANTERIOR WHITE SPOT LESIONS MANAGED WITH RESIN INFILTRATION

Background: White spot lesions (WSLs) represent early enamel alterations caused by demineralization or hypomineralization, reflecting structural changes and a potential risk of progression if not controlled. Resin infiltration is a minimally invasive technique aimed at improving lesions and limiting their progression.
Objective: To evaluate the treatment outcomes of resin infiltration for white spot lesions in anterior permanent teeth, both immediately after treatment and at 1- and 3-month follow-up.
Methods: A prospective, uncontrolled study was conducted on 33 patients with 61 affected teeth. Clinical characteristics, including etiology, lesion size, and depth, were recorded. All teeth were treated using a standardized resin infiltration protocol. Treatment outcomes were assessed based on clinical improvement, color change, Schiff sensitivity index, soft tissue condition, and patient satisfaction.
Results: Most lesions were small (83.6%), while deep lesions accounted for 59.0%. After treatment, 82.0% achieved resolution and 18.0% showed improvement. The majority of cases reported no pain, no soft tissue complications, or sensitivity according to the Schiff index. Patient satisfaction was high, with 91.8% very satisfied and 8.2% satisfied. Results remained stable at the 1- and 3-month follow-up.
