TREATMENT OUTCOMES OF CLOSED DISTAL TIBIAL FRACTURES USING LOCKING PLATE FIXATION AT MILITARY HOSPITAL 175

Purposes: Evaluating the treatment outcomes and some factors related to the using C-arm treatment outcomes in patients with closed distal tibial fractures treated with locking plate fixation.
Subject and method: 51 patients with closed distal tibial fractures surgically treated with locking plate fixation at Military Hospital 175 from January 2021 to January 2024. Cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective prospective study combined with longitudinal follow-up.
Results: Postoperative alignment outcomes were excellent in 80,39% of cases and good in 19.61% of cases. Long-term outcomes, evaluated by bone healing, were excellent in 86,27% of cases and goods in 13,73% of cases; functional outcomes were excellent in 76,47% of cases, good in 21,57% of cases, and moderate in 1,96% of cases. Fracture types A, C1 according to AO/ASIF classification and fracture alignment outcomes were related to bone union and functional outcomes postoperatively (p < 0.05).
Conclusions: Treatment of distal tibial fractures with locking plate osteosynthesis has many advantages, including good anatomical restoration, stable fracture fixation, and good functional recovery. Treatment of lower tibia fractures with surgery combined with locking splints has many advantages in terms of good anatomical recovery, firm fixation of the fracture and good functional recovery. The overall results obtained are based on the combination of bone healing results and functional recovery results: very good 70.97%, good 25.81%, average 3.22%, no poor results. Fracture types A, C1 according to AO/ASIF are related to bone healing results, rehabilitation results and general results. Type A fractures had better healing results, rehabilitation results and overall results than type C1 fractures (p < 0.05). The results of correction are related to the results of rehabilitation and general treatment results. The group of patients with very good correction results had better rehabilitation and general results than the group of patients with good correction results (p < 0.05).
