Abstract

Objective: Determine the prevalence of dermatological diseases, identify related factors among military personnel, and assess the impact of these conditions on their quality of life.

Study Population: Military personnel of Division 367, Ho Chi Minh City, who met the inclusion criteria and did not fall under the exclusion criteria, from December 2022 to August 2023.

Study Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study.

Results: Among 201 military personnel in Division 367, 40.30% were diagnosed with dermatological diseases. The most prevalent condition was skin abscess and furuncle, accounting for 24.38%. Most cases occurred within one to six months after enlistment (55.56%). Lower-ranking personnel and those with longer service durations had a higher prevalence of dermatological diseases. Military personnel with one to six months of service were 1.89 times more likely to develop skin abscess and furuncle than those with six months to two years of service. Those who did not shower immediately after labor were 9.09 times more likely to develop prurigo than those who did. Furthermore, 42.68% of affected personnel reported that dermatological diseases significantly impacted their quality of life with mean DLQI score: 10.81 ± 6.52 (DLQI: Dermatology Life Quality Index). The highest DLQI score (12.22 ± 6.23) was observed in those who developed skin conditions within one to six months after enlistment. The DLQI score for those with prurigo was significantly higher by 6.14 ± 2.10 points, and for those with skin abscess and furuncle, it was higher by 3.26 ± 1.44 points compared to personnel with other dermatological diseases.

Conclusion: The prevalence of dermatological diseases among military personnel in Division 367 is relatively high (40.30%), with skin abscesses and furuncles being the most common conditions (24.38%). These skin diseases significantly impact the quality of life of the Division 367 soldiers, particularly among those who had served for one to six months and those affected by skin abscesses, furuncles, and prurigo.
